Ouch! WordCamp Philippines

A toothache would be my undoing at the first WordCamp in Manila.  The night before I cut short my stay at Dencio’s to take painkillers and get rest.  This morning the pain reached its peak and my mood was busted.

I couldn’t even make the plenary session.  When I arrived at 4:30 PM the CSB guards and event registration were telling me it was all over.  (Gasps)  There’s no way I could miss WordPress founding developer Matt Mullenweg’s State of the Word.  I had lost all hope.  I thought he was probably on his way to the airport or something.

I walked into the venue and discovered a lot of empty seats in the back.  I sat there to hide my shame.

I made it just in time for Ria’s launching of the Cebu Pacific blog contest.  Bloggers local, foreign, old, and new, were invited to post on their blogs about any destination in the Philippines.  Panelists from Cebu Pacific will pick out the top five bloggers and send them on a round trip flight to those places. Wow!

Link love: I met P0yt (Tanggera), Billycoy, Ria (organizer, from Mindanao Bloggers), Fritz (with signature rockstar shades), Juned, Jeff (Teknostik), and Mica.  Too bad Kring left, I haven’t met her in person yet.  People say her talk on video blogging was really entertaining.

To my delight, the busy star of the show Matt Mullenweg was still in the building.  Here’s my picture with him and a brief on my beginnings with WordPress.

WordPress became my home in 2005 after I purchased Digiputz.com.  I imported my posts from Blogger.  I’ve been blogging for seven years.

Congratulations to the Mindanao Bloggers and the sponsors for this event.  I hope teeth won’t be a my cause of delay next year.
