Seven years ago I was shamefully apathetic to an event that reshaped the Philippines. I was a junior in high school more worried about trigo!
To me it was just a moment a short woman replaced a corrupted leader by taking oath as Philippine President. The entire world was her audience as it was live on international news. It was history in the making. It gave me goosebumps.

She was supposed to deliver the change we wanted. She has credentials but lacks charisma. Today her unpopularity is parallel to George W. Bush. Methods for economic stability lie buried in scandalous deals and relentless corruption in government.
EDSA II is a reminder that we trusted her in the first place.
Then, the hideous 2004 Hello Garci scandal which she “apologizes” (emphasis on quotation marks) as a lapse of judgment.
Post-EDSA Dos, we should focus on cleaning up the electoral process and paving the way for a just and fair 2010 elections. A prerequisite for that is transforming the highly influential mainstream media into a format that promotes objectivity not sensationalism.
In order to achieve a paradigm shift that our country so badly needs, we need to stop arguing about things like ratings! To think these ratings are rooted in media cashing in on happy-go-lucky folk who’d rather know the deal with Piolo and Sam than why our country was downgraded in aviation standards!
Looking back at 2001, it was a fierce showcase of a country that was fed up by betrayal of people’s trust. Personally though I’m not one for another massive uprising. If we need to unite for change and reform again, we need to start amidst ourselves at the very grassroots.
