Iloilo: Downtown to Plaza Libertad

We wasted no time on our last day in Iloilo.  It was 9:00 AM and we wanted to walk the downtown area by foot.

SM Delgado in Iloilo

I had a list of landmarks and places we could visit like SM Delgado (pictured above), Museo Iloilo, the provincial capitol, JM Basa Street, Calle Real, and Plaza Libertad.

Iloilo's Calle Real: Old Building

From Four Season Hotel we walked down Delgado Street to pass by an SM mall.  We turned right at Iznart which led us to downtown Iloilo.

Old commercial buildings lined up both sides of the street.  These buildings housed modern businesses like Jollibee.

We were looking for Iloilo City’s Calle Real but instead wound up in one of the back alleys near the port area.

We ended up at Plaza Libertad.  This was the location where the island of Panay first raised the Philippine flag back in 1898.

Hanz and Bea met up with us at the plaza.

It was quiet and peaceful compared to the busier streets around the corner.  It was photo op for us. (hehe)

Libertad Plaza is also where the San Jose Church is.  We boarded a taxi to get us back to the hotel in time for check-out.
