Iloilo: Desserts and coffee at Smallville
One thing I love about traveling to the provinces is having to pay much less for the delicious food. In Manila everything is fast-paced. Everything is 24/7. Food costs more in the metro and the cafes are noisy and crowded.
In places like Iloilo you can feel time slow down. I noticed that cities I’ve experienced like Naga, Bacolod, and Iloilo all have the amenities we love in Manila minus the traffic and noise.
In Iloilo there are alternatives like Coffee Break which is like Starbucks at half the price. And if there’s a Calea in Bacolod to solve the sweet tooth, we have Nothing But Desserts in Iloilo.
We made these discoveries while exploring Smallville after the rest of the group retired for the night. To find this place enter Smallville and head to the back. You should see a building known as The Avenue.
Nothing But Desserts looked like a speciality shop in Tomas Morato that was transplanted here. Inside we wanted to try as many cakes and pastries we could get our hands on but we were already so full from our dinner at Bourbon Street.
No matter how exquisite they looked the desserts were all very affordable. In Manila you could stare at these boutique cakes and have a hard time deciding if your Php 240.00 is worth a piece. But here, it’s like you want to collect all these bite-sized treats. Price ranges Php 30.00 to Php 150.00.
Since it was October they had Halloween-themed desserts. Nothing But Desserts also offers scoops of MokkiLato Italian gelato.
Right across Nothing But Desserts is a branch of Coffee Break. I didn’t get to try any of their coffee offerings but we did buy fudge brownies.
What caught my eye were the little pizzas and pastas (seen in the lower squares of the picture above). They look so cute. Portable pasta, portable pizza.
I recommend dinner at Bourbon Street then desserts at The Avenue (Nothing But Desserts and Coffee Break).
